Significance estimates and null predictions

Predictions are only useful if some degree of reliability can be attached to them. In the case of fold recognition, the additional solution of `no known fold' (null prediction) is always possible for a true blind prediction. Hence the potential user needs to know how to interpret results and when to ignore them all and employ ab initio methods.
