Fold recognition by alignment of structure-mapped sequence information

Does the recognition and/or the alignment of distant homologues improve using sequence information obtained from self-organising maps of sequence and structure information (structure-mapped sequence information)? Using the methods described here, the results are not very promising, but worthy of discussion and further investigation.
